F.W. Holler
Who can tell me when did this company start producing sword blades?
Did they export their product to Africa/Asia? Many thanks. |
1866-1975
Their marking was a thermometer (Bezdek, p.138) . It seems this marking has been seen on some shotel blades along with the G.G. and these presumably appeared latter 19th into early 20th. Some of thier sabre blades turn up in Saharan context on some Manding sabres as well as Tuareg aljuinar, these likely of course from French colonial sources rather than trade items. These were probably same period. Really not sure about Asia, but the colonial aspect may have seen some of these blades in this time in French areas, again unclear on trade aspects in any volume. F.W.Holler superceded F.Holler, mark of horses head (1820-1866). Friedrich Wilhelm Holler also had agents in London 1870-1895, while of course Solingen based. Predecessor F. Holler was apparantly a bayonet producer in Solingen, descended from the Holler sword cutlers of 18th c. |
