Lovely silver cover on the scabbard. Scabbard seems to have been modified to fit this blade. Good level of stain
Thats about all I know!

The blade is Madura, hilt is Central Java, the sheath may has been modified from ladrang Madura (attached sample from this thread to show how the sheath may originally look), I'm not sure with the metal oversheath, maybe contemporary/not traditional but was made to look Madura .

Yes, the blade is Madura, but the wrongko is Madura capu kagok, and the pendok is 100% correct and concurrent with the wrongko.

Capu kagok is also used in Surakarta Karaton dress, and there were ties of diplomacy and marriage between the Surakarta Karaton and the Sumenep Karaton.

I would be inclined to think that we are looking at a Madura keris dressed for wear in the Surakarta Karaton by a visitor from Madura.

Using the correct orientation for the images makes things easier to see.

I don't know Alan, but way to many what appear to me as repair scratches  and probably because I've seen the practice (the modification) quite often.

We are all entitled to our opinion, and I respect your opinion Tunggelametung.

Any opinion is based upon two things:- information input and experience; the information input in this case is from photos on a computer screen, I can see the same things as you, but my experience leads me to a different conclusion than yours. If we had this item in our hands, we could both well come to a different conclusion.

I think you are right Alan :)

Thanks all, excellent information.
So is this a reasonable example? It seems quite nice and to have good age.

Hi Gene,

no it's junk but I will be nice and you can send it to me. ;) :D
But seriously, I know this sheath form as well, it is a rare form (thank you Alan for the background information), the pendok is very nice and good executed and the blade ok. I would be happy when it would be mine!

Regards,

Detlef
