PNG star club info

I have recently obtained this Papuan club. It has yet to arrive. The head is an eight pointed star stone of approx 13cm diameter and a total length of 128cm. This is longer than the long Baining stone clubs which have the pointed wood halft end. It is clearly Papuan but as yet I have not been able to find information on what region of papuan New Giunea it come from. so before it arrives I wonder if anybody else might have more information with pictures? The pictures are the sellers but I have resized them. Although the pictures show the basic form it is not possible to get any idea of the qualities of the stone and how it may have been made from them.

The white marks bug me. Is that paint stains, or a dark stain rubbing off?

I also find the pictures very frustrating. I am hoping it will arrive latter today. The stone and much of the whole thing is probably smeared with a orchre like pigment. I think the head may be a soft stone and easy to carve but sure it is hard enough to hurt soft bobied creatures. I have a staff that was coverd in a red pigment. It left deposits everywhere not just on your hads. It is not that nice and to avoid trouble and strife I rubbed it all of with a cloth :o .

The club head is made from Pumice and is very light in weight. It can only be a dance club it really is not suitable as a weapon. In one way I am rather disappointed. I feel I paid a little too much for it. You win some you lose some, most of my ebay risks pay off very rewardingly. Never the less it is a genuine piece. As I suggested it is covered in a red pigment that gets everywhere. Not one your wife will like. :shrug: I hope these picture give more idea of the stone.

FINALLY AN EXAMPLE OF THE RARE NEW GUINEA UNDERWATER FIGHTING CLUB IF YOU LOOSE IT, IT FLOATS TO THE TOP SO IT CAN BE RECOVERED. :D
OH WELL LOOK AT IT THIS WAY ITS NOT A BUTTER CHURN PLUNGER AND YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE I KNOW OF WHO OWNS ONE SO FAR. |
