This old and interesting kris blade has a pamor estimated in Kenanga Ginubah style? which is worn-out and not perfectly executed.
The pamor line located approximately in the center of the blade is not continuous and probably not original IMO but is estimated to have been made later for filling the crack between the two sides of the pamor due to the welding flaw and wear. Regards |
Thank you, Jean.
I've been told by others that the pamor is "Unthuk Banyu", though, as you say, not well executed. What I find interesting is the heft of this blade, a nice heavy feel in the hand. Dan |
Hello Dan,
I am not sure about the style of pamor of your blade (although not Unthuk Banyu IMO, see the book "Keris Jawa" page 199) but the name is not important and what matters is that you like it! :) The opinion from others will be welcome. Regards |

Are you speaking of Groneman's book? I have ordered it, but, alas, it's taking a while to get here. I can't wait to have it in my hands. You're right about the name of the pamor, it's not as important and how it appeals to the eye, I was just pointing out what someone else had said. I really do like this keris! Dan |
Hello Dan,
No, I am referring to the book "Keris Jawa, antara Mistik dan Nalar" written by Haryono Haryoguritno in Bahasa Indonesia, and considered as the best and most comprehensive reference book about Javanese krisses. You can gain from it even if you don't understand the Indonesian language because of the many pictures, it is not easy to find and expensive but worth it (check on Ebay or from some Dutch sellers on Marktplaats, or the Leiden Ethnnographic Museum library). Best regards Jean |
