Bugis or Sunda?
 

Hello members,

what did I just buy? Is it a Sunda golok pandjang sintoeng or a Bugis klewang? http://www.ebay.com/itm/140732548697...84.m1439.l2649
Handle is so far I can see not from wood but from horn.

To me, it looks more a pedang than a golok. For instance, the handle is too impractical for a golok . If it were indeed Soenda, then the handle would normally be buffalo horn including its natural hollow. (The construction of the scabbard would've helped in the identification somewhat.:))
As deciding whether an item is a golok or a pedang can be quite a subjective thing, it can be difficult without actually handling the item.
At this stage, I'd venture it to be a Pedang Abet Sintoeng.

thank you for comment. Sadly there is no scabbard but the handle is hollow, look picture 5. The sword is around 57 cm long with a blade from 42,5 cm.

Thanks, I did see the hollow. I was merely making an assertion.:)The length is OK for both a golok pandjang or a pedang.
Is the blade laminated in stripes?

Just stumbled upon this thread and somehow I missed it before.
To give an answer to your question, it is indeed Sundanese.
I think the best thing to call this is a "gobang" for now, as there is no other name for it found in old articles nor museumcollections.

yes, it is very old but I can't get a real "feeling" to it, so it was sold.

Still think that the "very fine and complete one" is from Sulawesi. ;)
