A couple more Moro spears
3 Attachment(s)
Here are a couple more presumed Moro spears, each has unfortunately lost the majority of its pole. :( Both appear to be made of plain steel.
The first has a 37.5 cm blade and includes an old tag; I am having trouble deciphering the place names and would appreciate any help! The second has a 29.8 cm blade (measured tip to start of ferrule). |
"Spear used by the Moros of the Lanao region"
Iligan, (something, something), 1902(?) Which makes this a Maranao budiak... |
I have something of similar form mounted on a short length of bamboo. It was no doubt brought back by a soldier. The blade is a bit burned around the tip and the bamboo if I recall. This indicates kids were probably playing with it in make believe war scenes, plotting attacks and defense, on some American farm a hundred years ago. The blades have a characteristic shape which can be readily identified.
