Just sorted this out from the heap . I like this as it has a moniter lizard front to the scabbard but a crocodile back , with the crocs legs forming the loops for suspension perhaps on a belt . The grip is crocodile and the blade is decoratedwith incised geometric shapes , mostly triangular . Overall length 40 cm with the blade being 28 cm long. I assumed this was perhaps from Sudan but would be most interested to hear members opinions on this item.

Hello,
Yes , its origins are sudanese, Mad Mahdi period ( end 19th), the croco handle and scabbards are typical of this country and period. The blades are usually engraved with geometric charactères or Thuluth Islamic charactères .
