Hi Members ,

Today i pickud up some stuf and there was also a malay keris blade with a old jawa demam hilt.
The only thing i know about this blade is that is in Holland since 1951.

Any info regarding the dapur name and region is welcome.

Regards,

Danny

Without the sheath, it's hard to tell for sure. But the blade is more like the Bugis-influenced blades found in the Straits of Malacca. So that would put it more Southern Malay/Bugis than Northern Malay. As I mentioned "Straits", it could be from either side of the Straits - Malaya or Sumatra.

Slmt Bleu,

Thank you for answering !
So if i read it good , it,s not sure if it is a malay blade ?
This is a kind of good news for me , because it wil mean i can put this blade in a sumatran scabbard ?
this will be easyer for me , a sumatra waranka i can find in holland but a malay scabbard wil be more difficult .

Are the members that have this kind of blade , i would like to see the fittings and the wranka .

Greetz,

Danny

Given that Malaya was formerly controlled by the British, and present-day Indonesia formerly controlled by the Dutch, I think it may also be reasonable that there are more Sumatran and (other Indonesian) kerises in Holland than Malayan kerises. :)

Yes, this keris would not look odd in a Sumatran keris sheath. The only question is what is the appropriate style, given that there are many many different Sumatran sheath styles. :) I have seen similar blades in Minang style sheaths (I'm not suggesting you to do that), but I think it will not look odd if it had the sheath of the sepokal keris I posted a few days ago.

Happy hunting for the sheath!
