Powder? Flask ID needed
Picked this up a while back. Supposed to be some kind of powder flask. Not water tight. Any ideas anyone?

Hi Stu
Thanks for looking anyway bud. Anyone else have any ideas? |
Hi, Are you sure it's a powder flask? is there any residual smell around the spout that would indicate any other use, maybe a medicinal flask of some kind? I can't place the style of decoration. At first I thought Caucasus/ Russian, but I can't really back that hunch up.

I honestly don't know what it is. The seller described it as a powder flask, but I have my doubts. There is no obvious smell apart from dusty old metalic etc. Here's a better pic. Thanks Gene http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c5...a/IM000564.jpg |

If it is, then its is obviously designed to be attached to something. I DO think "powderflask" but from where??????????? Have you had a look inside to see what the residue colour is? Stu |

Just one suspension ring on that side. Other side is the same as the visible one, just without the loop. Residue.. well its grey/black. Cheers Gene |

I suspect this is a snuff flask from Nigeria/Cameroon borders. I have this tobacco flask. As can be seen there are decorative elements with strong similarity. This sort of work can be observed on jewellery and weapons. I am not an expect but somehow I do not think it is from the African west coast with many centres famed for their lost wax casting. The size is pretty much the same.
