I recently acquired this Jezail from a relative who passed on. It is a very important piece to me because it was inherited. I am trying to identify where this piece is from and any information I can find on it will be greatly appreciated. Attached are the photos I have taken some are better than others your help and expertise in this matter is greatly appreciated!

That piece is from Sind and is the best one of these I have ever seen. Most of these pieces of this form are very plain. This looks like a presentation piece I suspect that it has a very nice damascus barrel, but would need to see better closups.

Hi Patsy57
very nice Afghan Jezail flintlock, very clean made in the Sind area around Pakistan and Afghanistan - Late 18th century - may be the flintlock system could be imported (English ?) a focus image of the coin embedded, could might be give a chance for a translation :p à + Dom |
OK now my interest is really peaked. What other pics would you guys like to see? Is there anyway to really bring out the Damascus barrel without hurting the firearm?
Who can I get to translate the medallion? What is the value of something like this? How do we know this is from the Sind area? |
I'm sorry but appraisals are not publicly given on this forum .
Perhaps someone might offer a valuation via Private Message . :) |
Plus, either I'm missing something (I'm totally out of my area, here), the pics are inverted, or the gun is made for a left-handed shooter...
|
Not looking for an appraisal just some kind of value but I understand.
The Jezail is a left hand version. |

Any ideas on the seal? What it says? I am continuing to look and try to have translated.
|
Going from left to right and top to bottom I can decipher "Hamid Abud" but that is only part of the top line and I cannot seem to get the rest. Any help once again is greatly appreciated.
Thanks! |
Hi Patsy,
I think I'm seeing a date: 1204 (the 4 is a bit indistinct... might be a 6) I believe that would equate to: 1790 Gregorian. Which would fit perfectly with Doms estimation of age for the piece. Its a lovely gun. Can we see a picture of the whole thing? Regards Gene |

Hi
I didn't get the translation completly, because it's "farsi" language Arabic alphabet, but not Arabic language :( it's little bite like a rebus ... :o words are in all directions  up the lign - 1207 either 1792 Gregorian - MOHAMED - ABAD could be a name - the left part it's illegible down the lign - CIRKAR (I thought in farsi) "country" - KHALKHAN either KhalKhan - Badakhshan Afghanistan Badakhshan (Persian: بدخشان - Badakhshān) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan all what is in above must be corrected and approved by a Persian or Patchou reader à + Dom |
