Hi Louieblades
beautiful "Dharia" dagger know as "Malsa",
the blade is of the "beyd" type
my point of view is
- hilt and the metal of scabbard might be, is copper, should be silvered at origine

dagger contemporary, worn by "Bani Shahr", "Bani Malik", and "Bani Qarn" tribes (KSA)

Thanks Lew,.......as I said , a nice piece. Unfortunately we see VERY little of this sort of thing in New Zealand, almost never at auction, and about the same at our gun shows.

A question to Dom:
You mention name Malsa and blade type Beyd.
In the Saudi book on Islamic swords and armour, they mention several names for this type of Jambiya (Muqafalla, Mufarragha, Dharia, Rashaq,Malsa) and several blade types (Muayyar,Beyd, Nafihi,Shbeyl) without any further explanations.
How did they differ from each other?
Can you elaborate?

Hi Dom

If by contemporary do you mean recent? I would say this dagger is from the 1920-30s?

YES ... because myself ... I'm recent :D
I considere me "included" inside contemporain generation :p
I'm just younger for 10 years than that dagger type

... do not tell me that I am old,
otherwise I should admit that every body hidden to me ... too many things ...
LOL

the same book than you :p
then, the pic's ... a good magnifying glass :p
and studies of similarities
- hilt shape
- design in the middle of the blade

I got the chance to have them in hands many time during my 6 years of residence in KSA
where there are much more expensive on suk, than in USA or Europe auctions :o

Just wanted to state a correction on the blade length which is 17.5 -18 inches long not 14". :o
