Dagger, Short Sword
 

Greetings,
This is another Philippine weapon looking for everyones opinions. The blade is still extremely sharp and there is a small horn guard that is hard to see. All comments are welcome.


blade length is 14-3/8"
blade width is 1-3/16" at widest point
blade thickness is 1/4"
grip lenth is 5-3/4"

I'm still trying to identify this Philippine knife and hoping that by bumping it back up that someone might have some new thoughts on it. Thanks for any help offered.

VISAYAN TALBION STYLE HANDLE WITH A ATYPICAL BLADE FORM. THE BLADE IS MORE LIKE THOSE FOUND ON THE BOWIE OR SPANISH STYLES. YOU CAN SEE SOME EXAMPLES OF THE MORE USUAL TALBION BLADES WITH A SEARCH. IN THE PHILIPPINES THE POORER GUYS HAD TO DO THE BEST THEY COULD FOR A WORK/FIGHTING KNIFE AND OFTEN CARVED THEIR OWN HANDLE AND SCABBARDS. THATS MY BEST GUESS I FIND THESE INTERESTING BECAUSE OF THE WIDE VARIATION IN DECORATIONS THERE IS USUALLY LESS VARIATION IN THE BLADES.

Thank you both for your replies. The blade on this knife is beveled on both sides. When I first posted this I just guessed at the thickness of the blade. I was close but it is actually 9/32 inch thick at the grip. Not that this is a great difference I just thought I would mention it. Below is the only other knife with the same blade style as this that I have. The blade on it is just shy of a 1/4 inch at the grip. It is nowhere the quality of the first one. Am I wrong or is one of these left handed? These were both supposedly brought back after WWII. I'm just trying to find out if there is an actual name for this style. Thank you both again.
