Looking for info on contemporary Keris Budaīs

Greetings.

Of course The Old stuff is also more than welcomed...

Thanks,

Here's a somewhat unusual current era KB Jussi.

Weight is 800grms.

Length is 43cm (17").

This is a very massive KB.

What an earth has that thing been dipped to? Alien blood or something?

Instant antiquity . ;)
Many prefer an aged look .

There are several substances that are used to achieve an aged look. This blade probably used two , one after the other.

To many people the finish that this blade carries is seen as desireable.

I find the finish appealing, but i don't really care for the serrated, jagged edge look.

Well, I guess itīs the same as with pre-distressed watchbands and jeans really :p

I like the looks, I just guess Iīd prefer new things to look their age

But, if it is being sold as new instead of a rare, collectors, antique Itīs ok.

I agree with you in this Jussi . :)
Let's not hide artistry under artificial pits .

Rick, from the point of view of some Javanese keris fanciers, the finish that this blade has been given is, in fact, artistry, that enhances, rather than detracts from the blade. I can understand that it is not to your taste, and frankly, not really to my taste either, but for some people it spells "excellence" with a capital "E".

The question of an attempt to decieve simply does not arise.

This keris has been made to the proportions of a keris buda, but upon a massive scale, and incorporating stylistic variations that are not found in a KB.

It was never intended to replicate a KB, but to be a work of art in the form of a KB. It is a truly massive keris, you cannot really envisage how massive until you hold it.

I understand Alan .
Twenty years and a couple of owners hence though ??

A. G. Maisey 23rd October 2009 01:31 AM

Not a possibility with this one Rick.

I emphasise:- it is MASSIVE.

Nobody who had ever handled a keris, let alone a keris Buda, could possibly mistake this art work for an original KB.My pics don't do it justice, it is really a superb piece of work.

Rick 23rd October 2009 03:45 AM

Understood then; a giant among KB it is . :)
