COULD BE A WEAPON, but Arabic Translation Please

This could very well be a weapon in the wrong hands, such as an angry spouse who has just found out that you have bought ANOTHER blade for the collection. ;)
Seriously though, I am looking for translation, or at least the gist of what the Arabic on this brass plate says. I am assuming that it is quotation from the Koran, and if that is the case then thats all I need to know. Otherwise can you please tell me what the message is. I have not yet received the item so this is the best pic I have, however I can tell you that it was picked up in Dubai some years ago.
Thanks in advance.
Regards Stuart

Roughly translated: "Turn side with goal posts picture towards ground after reading. Holding the disc on which hand depends upon the persons comfort. Remember holding the disc level parallel to the ground. It should be thrown using medium strength because if it is thrown softly, it will fall short of the target. If it is thrown too hard, chasing of the disc will be needed. When throwing the disc at a target, beware with the neighborhood as it easily flies onto roofs and windows."

Amazing how much information can be conveyed with those simple characters, eh?

Seriously - best of luck in finding a proper translation,

Ray

Hi Stuart
weapons ... may be in case of " miss used " :p

I’m not an « expert » on that field,
but I may be considered as a good specialist … since over than 20 years I’m collecting them :D

- your « weapon » could be at first view,
a "Tasset el Khadad" or « Tasset al Khaba » ..

- could be translated by "fright bowl " knowing also under the name of "talismanic or magic bowl"

Magic bowls were made at least as early as the 12th century. They were used in Islam in the treatments of disease and other ailments, including insect and snake bites. Water placed in such bowls was believed to take on curative aspects after having come into contact with the various talismanic and Koranic symbols and verses etched onto such bowls. It was then drunk by the afflicted person.

If « in fine » I will confirm my position
(still yet the traduction on edge, to confirm my assertion),
your item is ;
- quality les than average ... (sorry :o )
- end of XIX century, but more probably XX century
- inusual (strange) by his shape
- could come from Iran (Chiite, coze reference to "Ali")

Hi Dom, and thanks for the information on the bowl/plate. I note that the bowls in the pic you posted are much more rounded on the base. Are they in fact the same thing?

yes Stuart
it's the same thing, but, don't mixed; form and spirit :p

it's not the form who is charged with ... power
it's the mentions who are charged with symbolism :p

Holy names associated at Koranic verse = spirit ;)

even in the middle of the oldest one, not rare to found "Seal of Solomon" ... (bowl, very rare and very expensive, I haven't  )

till now, my translator is in echec to found the surate & verse concerned

so, I confirm, your plate (enough deep, able to contain a liquid) it's an item used to care peoples, more magic pratices than medical ...
