ARABIC TRANSLATION AGAIN PLEASE
 

I have had this Meccan Jambiya in my collection for several years and have just noticed this script on the blade. Not sure if it is the right way up but could someone please let me know what it says.

Can I ask a total newbie question?
Your Dagger looks to me very 'classic' and rather fine. I have been thinking about the bulbous ends to the scabbards on these and I'm wondering what the 'classic' shape represents?
Although superficially similar to mine, yours is totally different to the foliate 'pineapple' shape and cut of mine?
Are their rules to what these represent even though the general bulbous shape is the same?
Could you show a closer view of the end of yours please?

The "bulb" is called a THUM and literally translates as a Garlic or Onion. Found mostly on Western Arabian knives from Asir /Meccan region, though it is also found on some Southern Arabian pieces, notibly the Hadramauti GUSBI. I guess the shape can be anything the maker dreams up as some are only very small while others are quite big.

- onion in arabic is ; "bazal"
- garlic is ; "thôm"
