My dad's old klewang
8 Attachment(s)
My dad is old and sick so I am trying to figure out what the stuff he collected during his younger years really are. Today I learned that an old Turkish sword that has been hanging above my dad's bed for as long as I can remember is actually an Indonesian klewang. He bought it in Holland around 1958. It says TJIKEROEH 1899 on the blade. It is not in perfect condition but I guess it still looks quite okay. I will try to upload a few images that I took today with a camera that I don't like. If anyone would like/need to see some more pictures of the klewang - just let me know and I will use my other camera. My intention is to sell this klewang so I would like to know what it might be worth and as much as possible about its history. Thanks in advance!

Where else can I ask
It seems as if nobody knows any facts about this klewang. Does anyone know of another forum where I could ask?

The blades vary in shape from long and almost straight to short and broad, a bit like a bowie knife. The patterns on the blade are very alike on any blade from that area. The hilt often represents a stylized bird, but sometimes has a more 'European' shape and may be of wood, horn or even ivory. The scabbard may be of leather, like yours, or of wood. Nice original piece! Prices are not dicussed on this forum though. |

Hi Pingis,
Welcome to the forums (I'm still quite new myself) Nice sword, will this be the start of a hobby for you? Perhaps consider keeping the sword, its a great start to a collection (if your dad has given it to you of course). Sorry to hear about your dads ill helath, best wishes for a speedy recovery. Gene |
Thank you all for the answers. I will move on to the other forum where I can hopefully get help to figure out where to sell it and for how much. No, I don't think this will be a new hobby of mine. I have to many hobbies and too little time already. unfortunately my dad will never recover, since he is sufffering from Alzheimer's disease. I am in the middle of trying to sell the treasures (?) he collected during his active life. One of the treasuresa is this klewang. Thanks again.
