These 2 seem identical, just the one is missing the outer leather cover. Anyone knows where they come from? They hava a "bosnian" feel to me.

Very nice indeed. Thanks for posting.

Nice find Eftihis.
They both look Turkish/Ottoman to me. And similar to others I've seen, including one I own. Doesn't look Saudi or Omani. Nor Afghan. Again, nice find. Rick |
I vote for Bosnian or Albanian, the leather work is similar to the selahlik or bensilah. But I also agree with Rick the Turkish ones are also very similar... And are they really Turkish??
 |
I can not comment on actual ORIGIN, but the top pic appears to show the Turkish star and crescent (above the leather lace).
Nice pieces. Stu |
Well the crescent and star means it belonged to amuslim, but was he a mainland Turk or a Balkan muslim?

Please allow me to explain: the Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Slovens, Croats and Serbs, later changed to the Kingdom of Southern Slavs (Yugoslavia) has the Coat of Arms of Slavonia incorporated in it at the bottom.... which is a lying Cresent with a star. Also found on their coinage (denar Slavonia) since medieval times and is not Islam related at all. It could very well be indeed be from Hercegowina but more proof needs to be present instead of assumptions... But to be sure we need a better picture of the Cresent and especially the star to verfy if it is from the Balkans or if we need to look elswhere. . I have got some books from 1860-1900 about the Balkans and Ottoman empire with similar pics but I need a good look and better pic of the bag in order to compare and determinate |
It's the reason why I didn't mention the crescent and the star. You have this in all Ottoman dominated countries up to Yemen. I don't know if it's Christian or Muslim, but it's probably from the Balkans.
