African cosh, new find today

Got this today at a market. I think it is great, I love the macabre beauty. The twist is so right. It is not by accident that it looks the way it does but as you know I prize this sort of thing above a lot of other stuff. Made out of sinew form a very large animal, surely the only sinew 2.5cm x 1.5cm thick can only come from an Elephant? One end it weighted and covered in a bark felt. There is an insect hole as can be seen. A total length of 40cm. It could be a weapon or hunting implement for dispatching smaller game. Equally it could be a baton/cosh used as a weapon but with nonlethal intent as in a marshaling stick used by a society when needing to keep a certain order when festivaties get out of hand rather like our police services. Anyway I think it is pretty fab!!!!

Could it be a stretched & twisted pizzle perhaps Tim? quite common for whips & the some styles of sjambok in Europe & Africa.

They are what most dog chews are made of nowadays.

Yes I do believe it is. A bulls penis. It is more than adequate to render a person compliant. With vigorous use around the head I feel sure death would occur very quickly.

Yes I thoughit looked like it might be one Tim, I belive Horses & Donkey cocks were also sometimes used in Europe but most are indeed bulls, although my understanding is hippo is the absouloute best. {or should that be beast?} Seen one antique C. 3ft long one 1.5 inches at handle about 1 inch on the thin end, semi translucent but finely veiny. flexible but hard, 5 or 6 years ago, Belonged to An ex. British Rhodesian policemans son, i should have brought it, {I did get other pieces from him.] but thought it was too expensive at the time... My mistake. The other cheaper pieces went to a "specialist" German museam in the end.

But I tend to agree with you, I am sure vigerous use of a 40 cm bulls penis upon ones person would probaly kill one eventualy & if not I am sure it would certanly make most of us wish for death!

I understand The British ,Spanish, German & French penile {no pun intended. ;) ] colonies, were run by the use of them, pre.ww2.

Ah, the question is ......

Pen-is mightier than the sword ?????? ;) :D

Interesting object, would be a good murder weapon in "CLUEDO' ...

Miss Scarlet...in the billiard room ...bludgeoned to death with a Bull's penis
