Ainu Sword
 

Doesn't look Ainu to me; they had katana-like swords, see example:

This one looks like a modern Chinese production, down to the damascus pattern of the blade and fresh garish paint of the scabbard.

The second one (ebay) is indeed chinese crap with acid etched damascus;
The first one, afaik, is real ainu sword

I WOULD AGREE THAT THE KNIFE AND THE SWORD IN THE FIRST LINK APPEAR TO BE AINU. I HAD A AINU KNIFE VERY SIMULAR TO THE ONE PICTURED THERE ITS GOOD TO SEE A PICTURE OF A SWORD EVEN IF IT LOOKS LIKE A PRESENTATION SWORD. THE SECOND ONE DOES INDEED LOOK LIKE NEW POORLY MADE TOURIST STUFF.

:D The guy bought one of thoose "masterpieces" from China and then blinded from its quality, decided to resell it on the most honourable auction house of all times. :D

Gorgeus ainu to on the first link! :eek: Yes ainu people produced mainly short swords (aka wakizashi) with not verry quality blade but the fittings on thoose rarely seen pieces are adorned with a lot of motherpearl, and other ornamets, like bear claws itd...

Sorry to reopen this old thread, but I have been interested in Ainu blades for sometime so this re: line one peeked my fancy.
I currently have six Ainu blades and have seen and/or handled another 30 or so. I'm sure this is in no way Ainu-related. I'll bet this sword cane is some manner of modern "Chinoisserie" - certainly not Ainu.
I can only assume that the market for the stuff being made in China today is not very deep so that imaginative marketeers are always looking for new stories. I wonder if anyone ever bites on yarms like this
