My one Moro Budiak

Since we've had a few of these posted on here recently, and I've never shared this before, I thought I'd share a few pics of my one Budiak.
It's a former museum piece that was deaccessioned, and I'm really lucky to have it. |
Nice one! I like the repeated carving of the blade by the scabbard! :)
|
That might have a twist core!!!
Have you tried to etch that piece yet… I’d bet it has a laminated pattern.
Very nice piece!! SS |
Non Invasive
You might get a hint of the pattern by holding the pointy half of the blade under running hot water for a few minutes.

Hey… no giving away the secrets of the dark arts!! LoL

Etching it would probably mean you’ll lose the accession #. Dilemma. |
Good point… ug though call on that….
|
Is the bolster at the base of the blade octagonal in cross section? If so, that would be unusual.
I think a clean and etch on one side would be sufficient to see whether there is a twist core in the central panel. |
Or you could use something like wax or chapstick or something like that over the accession number as a resist, then etch the rest.
Nice blade and rare to have the scabbard, much less a complete scabbard, much less a well carved one like this. |
