Birthday Gift of a Dha
2 Attachment(s)
For my Birthday a friend and fellow collector gave me this rather decent bare blade from a Dha . I have been looking for a nice Dha for some time, but all the ones that turned up were sheet steel blades of no quality.
This blade is 19 inches (48.5cm) long , of a fullered wedge section and has a decent distal taper. A very light and handy blade, and scarily sharp still. After cleaning I want to mount it up in an appropriate but simple style. I am looking forward to comments and suggestions from the Dha enthusiasts and knowledgeable here. |
Handsome your birthday. Happy Birthday happy. :) ;)

Happy Birthday David! Looks like a Burmese dha blade. :)

Hi Dave,
Have a look here http://dharesearch.bowditch.us/ and at the bottom, click on SWORD INDEX. You will find plenty of choice for handle styles. Stu |
Happy Birthday and congratulations David R. This is as many gentleman have suggested a Burmese dha. You can tell by the blade profile and the wide fuller. Fullers are not found that common among south east asian mainland swords except for with Burmese you do see a more functional versus thin shallow fuller. The type you have would have had a short bare hardwood handle probably about 7-8 inches long with brass ferrule and pommel cap each about an 1 1/2 long.
Good blade. |
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND HAPPY COLLECTION IN THE COMMING YEARS,CHEERS

Many thanks to everyone for their comments, Nathaniel especially, for his guidance on hilt type for this blade. That was just what I was looking for.
