Famous handgonne from Tabor
6 Attachment(s)
I want to share my photos of one of my favorite handgonnes - famous handgonne from Tabor. Barrel is cylidrical (not conical). Total length is 420 mm. Calibre is 20 mm (Many sites says that calibre is 17-18mm but it is wrong. My own measurements and measurements of Makovskaya says that calibre is 20 mm). I will share my plans of this later :) I am working on it now.

Oh yes, Alexander,
For freaks like us this is a beauty indeed; for most 'normal' folks out there it would be nothing but a mere crude piece of rusted iron ... I would like to add that this is one of the very rare little tiller 'pipe' guns (Pfeifenbüchsen) that were very popular in around 1430, during the Czech Hussite Wars. As I pointed out in an earlier thread this one is about contemporary with the well known but wrongly dated Tannenbergbüchse which by no means is of ca. 1390. Best, Michael |

Here is our free reconstruction of the Tabor-gonne. It has a barrel length of 410 mm a bore of 270 mm and a calibre of 18 mm. The total length with wooden stock is 192 cm. It is officially proof tested for shooting salute with a powder load of 20 g blackpowder by German authorities. Contrary to the original it has a funnel shaped muzzle. The piece is made from a modern steel on a CNC-grinding machine and secondary hand forged for the outer shape. .... And it is very, verry loud ... :D
Spiridonov: May I use one of your photos of the original on our hompeage? |
