Big keris
Just got this straight-bladed keris in last week.
Probably a Bugis keris. I was wondering about the size of this piece. The blade measures 37 cm from the handle to the tip. It's heavy with a thickness of almost 1 cm near the ganja. I know Bugis blades are strong, functional pieces, but are large blades like this one usual ? The blade is uncleaned as I received it, but I can see pamor (look at the pic) |
where the pic??

It's the last one, showing the lines on the blade near the tip.

Hello Freddy,
All parts aren't Bugis/Sulawesi as far as I can tell. No scabbard? The pendokok could be from the eastern Malay peninsula. (Maybe younger than hilt and blade though?) Regards, Kai |
Hi fred,
Was the ganja's really a ganja? Or was it a ganja iras? |
Based on the pics of the blade alone.... I think this is a Palembang piece

Hi, all.
The ganja of this keris is seperate. The pendokok is very simple, but it has an interesting feature. The two rings between the actual cup of the pendokok and the blade are not attached to that 'cup'. They are a seperate piece. Every pendokok I have seen in the past was made from 1 piece of metal. Sorry to say, but this keris came without sheath. Here's a better pic of the pendokok. |

I'm not used to seeing what I consider an atypical blade cross-section such as this . Probably just my ignorance showing though .. :o  |
