I have bought recently this badik similar weapon by ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/160736169929...84.m1439.l2649
The blade is maybe from an old spear point and nearly 26 cm long, handle, crosspiece of the sheath and "buntut" are from kemuning wood and sheath middle part, stem are from sena (?) wood and very well worked in my opinion. the handle have unfortunately an old age crack. The pictures are from the seller, if someone want I can post additional pictures.

Anyone like to comment?

Regards,

Detlef

Nice catch and a very good price, too!

Based on the dress it might come from the small pirate island of Salayar (S Sulawesi).

Hello Detlef,

Your example has slightly better carvings. more relief.

I would like to see more examples if someone on the forum have them in their collection.

My two Salayer badik have different blades than yours.

Thank you very much for sharing your two beautiful examples. Even when the blade of your first example have luk it is clearly to seen that they belong to the same "family". And by your second example it is certain that it is a badik. At the first glance I have thought that my example is a remounted spear tip, now I know that it was meant to be this way. It is every time very helpful to see other examples. :)

Detlef

Yes, sharing reference pictures at this forum is educating.
I haven't seen any Salayer daggers with 'sangkuh-style' blades before like yours and Willem's.

Michael
