Hi Guys
A new arrival in the familly, is it from Kutch or Hyderabad??? Thanks |
What a beauty, lucky you. I think it may be Kutch but I am no expert and would hope that that the more knowledgable members like Ibrahiim and Jens will tell us where it originates. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Miguel
I saw Kutch everywhere, only Oliver Pinchot wrote that they might be from South India...normally he is very reliable...so I don't know... |

I too say south India due to the proximity to Arab trade routes.

Battara,
Plenty of Arabs and old Arab connections with NW India: Kutch, Hyderabad , Baluchstan. They came mainly from Yemen (Hadhramis) and what is now Saudi Arabia / Oman ( Hejazis), both being Janbia neighborhoods. There are 2 Hyderabads : South Indian and Pakistani one in the Sindh province. Omani Sultanate even owned part of Baluchistan till 1950s and there is a sizable Baluch community in Oman. There was a thread here on peculiar saber handles from Baluchistan, a mix of Indo-Persian and Omani traditions. I think this janbia is from that area, and Kutch sounds very believable. |
Thanks for the information, Ariel! :)

Just look at other weapons, axes for example, the ones in the Sindh are very different from those of the Kutch... I vote for Kutch. |
