talibong

Hello friends,
This came from the same Bacolod seller. OAL: 29.75 inches/ blade: 23.25 inches. Unfortunately, there is no scabbard. My father tells me it's a talibong with a bakutan blade profile. And it's also our first talibong that has no maranhig/deity as the hilt's design. We have a book (reference) featuring talibongs with hilts that has no maranhig, etc. designs. Enjoy and regards, Yves |
Nice long Visayan sword. Would you say this is WWII vintage? It appears to have a left-handed chisel grind.

Im IMHO (and from the story of the seller)- probably pre or ww2 era (but I'm not sure really). This sword was kept inside a wooden chest since they had this way back when. The seller remembers his father who, once a month or so, brings it out of the chest to oil/clean it. It has a left-handed chisel grind. Regards Yves |
