Mexican Blade

Señores,
bought this blade on a market in Puebla, México, last week for virtually nothing. „Viva la Penca“ can be translated as „Long live the blade“ with room for a slippier interpretation. Hilt part is 9,5 cm long, the actual blade 18,5 cm, overall is 28 cm. I have seen similarly shaped knives in a museum in Oaxaca and done some web research. I still am clueless as to what the complete hilt may have looked like. Any ideas from an experienced collector? Thanks in advance! Dirk. |
its a mexican knife there is also bigger machete like weapons with this type of blade and handle as well.

Thanks!
Here is a very similar knife titled "Mexican fighting knife marked “Pero Cabron, Soy Chiquito"” http://media.liveauctiongroup.net/i/...D4A6EF91302A50 |

Dirk,
Sorry for not getting to this sooner. Attached are pictures from a Mexican machete hilt that is probably relevant to your request. Note there is a pin through the eagle's beak, and I think your tang has a hole in that position also. The hilt on mine is made from two scales of horn (probably steer horn). Hope this helps. Ian. |
Great, Ian, exactly what I was hoping to see.
Would you mind showing the machete in whole? Best, Dirk. |
