yataghan

This one ended and I am a bit sorry for not even bidding on it.
I like it quite a lot, perhaps because of the clean silver scabbard, or the elegant contour of the "ears", or the rich color of the handle, or... it is one of those strange things one cannot explain well...

I am intrigued by the ring on the scabbard. Usually, "Yataghans were carried thrust through the belt and had no sling loops" ( the seller even cited the famous description from the Stone's book). Indeed, none of mine have it.
Why does this one have a sling loop that was not supposed to be there?
Are there any ethnic, military or other Yataghan varieties that did reliably have a sling loop ?

Hi, Sensei!

As far as I know (and I know little) there are identically placed rings on khybers also. Tirri (or maybe someone else, I just do not remember) says that it was used for fastening the sccbbard to the belt with an aditional cord. :)

Thatone it is almost certainly from Montenegro. Well "almost" 'cos thoose from Montenegro usually have larger ears. If I saw it, it would be mine now :(
